Pink & Blue

From day 1 I have tried my hardest not to push any kind of stereotypes onto my twins, from avoiding buying pink clothes (a challenge in itself as girls sections in clothes shops look like the inside of a marshmallow), to offering the same options in terms of toys and play experiences, and everything in between.

I kind of took this whole nature vs. nurture dilemma quite personally, but I must say that, in some aspects, nature hit stronger than nurture with our two.

The moment they turned two years old, my girl became a full-on pink advocate, too, just like that. We didn't see it coming at all, but all of the sudden she wanted everything pink and all sort of girly things.

The truth is, their personalities couldn’t be more different if they tried, which I love. They complement each other in many ways.

You might think this avoids fighting over the same things but no, we have plenty of that still. Although my little man has given up early in life and follows his own version of happy (wife), happy life. Ultimately, keeping her happy makes his life easier.

She’s fearless, he’s cautious.

She loves to draw and colour, he’s all about rough play.

She likes cats, he likes dogs.

She wants Bluey, he wants Paw Patrol.

She’ll dive blindly into the pool, he’ll stay where his feet touch the floor.

She screams when angry, he wants to hit.

She likes to play with baby dolls, he likes cars and tractors.

He protects her, she looks after him.

He loves jellies, she loves chocolate.

He likes to nap, she likes to sleep in in the morning.

He’ll eat the rice, she’ll eat the chicken.

He eats the sausages, she eats the chips.

He sleeps as if Disney creatures had placed him into bed while singing a lullaby, she looks like she was thrown out of a moving plane and happened to land on a mattress.

He couldn’t find his shoes if they fell on his head, she will tell you the coordinates of your car key’s location.

He’s funny, sweet and cheeky, she’s feisty, smart and brave.

She loves pink, he loves blue.

She leads, he follows.

They both love music, dancing, riding bikes, dressing up and reading books.

But what they love the most, is each other.

They play and fight all day long.

But every night,

when they go to bed,

they talk and sing,

just the two of them,

making each other laugh... like no one else can
